Section R327.3.2 — Ventilation

PRESCRIPTIVE REQUIREMENT

“All ventilation openings shall be covered with noncombustible corrosion-resistant metal wire mesh.”

Ventilation mesh and screening must have openings no larger than 1/8 inch in any dimension.

HOW RIDGEARMOR ALIGNS

RidgeArmor is manufactured from Type 304 stainless-steel woven wire mesh with 1/8-inch openings. When installed continuously over the attic ridge opening and beneath the ridge vent, RidgeArmor matches the prescriptive material and maximum-opening criteria of ORSC §R327.3.2.

APPLICABILITY

Section R327 applies only where it has been adopted by the local municipality and within the areas designated by that municipality. Oregon currently identifies Ashland, Bend, Deschutes County, Grants Pass, Medford and Sisters as adopting jurisdictions.

The required net free ventilation area under ORSC Sections R408 and R806 must still be maintained.
