California Wildland-Urban Interface Code

2025 CWUIC §504.10.2 and 2022 California ridge-vent provisions

RidgeArmor stainless-steel mesh protecting a sloped-roof ridge ventilation opening

2025 CALIFORNIA WILDLAND-URBAN INTERFACE CODE

Section 504.10.2 — Off-Ridge and Ridge Vents

PRESCRIPTIVE REQUIREMENT

The required mesh opening range is 1/16 inch through 1/8 inch.

The section states:

“shall not exceed 1/8 inch.”

“The vent and mesh material shall be noncombustible.”

“The vent and mesh material shall be corrosion resistant.”

HOW RIDGEARMOR ALIGNS

RidgeArmor’s 1/8-inch Type 304 stainless-steel mesh matches the opening-size, noncombustibility and corrosion-resistance criteria applicable to the mesh.

IMPORTANT 2025 REQUIREMENT

The 2025 California code also requires the overlying vent itself to be noncombustible and corrosion resistant. Therefore, RidgeArmor must be paired with a qualifying ridge vent for the complete assembly to use this prescriptive pathway. RidgeArmor alone does not make a combustible plastic ridge vent compliant with the 2025 provision.

2022 CODE-CYCLE PROJECTS

For projects governed by 2022 California Residential Code §R337.6.2.1 or California Building Code §706A.2.1, the provisions state:

“The mesh material shall be noncombustible.”

“The mesh material shall be corrosion resistant.”

These 2022 provisions also require mesh openings between 1/16 inch and 1/8 inch. RidgeArmor matches those prescriptive mesh criteria.
